Well not sure I would say perennial but Tkachuk is appearing to be getting better. If he had played all 82 games this year (which he can’t) he would be on pace for 116 points. As is he is on pace for 112 points in 79 games. Impressive no matter how you slice it. Just another proof point of the value of signing guys for as long as you can coming out of ELC. Way more likely to get value on an overpayment on a young guy than paying a UFA what is perceived to be market value at the time of the UFA signing (not trying to start a debate about whether Tkachuk would have signed longterm, just observing that in my opinion that should be the goal of most teams, overpay for term on young players and use UFA as a secondary source for players once young guys are locked up longterm).
