I admit to 100% thinking we pulled off the steal of the century when it happened (and I was one of the few who said Tkachuk was going to be good)... but I'm firmly in the camp of thinking we got hosed big time now.
Edit: I guess the trade itself was still pretty good. It was really us that hosed ourselves by signing both of them to max term before seeing them in action under Sutter.

I mean hosed is pretty harsh. The 25 year old wasn't going to sign with the team and he gave a limited list of teams he would sign with. So, they either do a one year deal with him and he walks to free agency or play ball and negotiate with the 5 (?) teams he was willing to sign with. That it is even debatable whether the Flames lost the trade means that the trade is a win.
Further, judging a trade with the benefit of hindsight is always a little unfair because there is more data available that wasn't present at the time management was making the decisions.
