I agree with the general idea that the coach is not the sole problem here. I also think Darryl is a good coach and knowledgeable hockey mind. I just don't think he's the right coach for this team.

If the rumours about a rift are true (and I tend to believe they are) then the way I see it the team has two options:

1. Side with your coach who you know has a short shelf life and who is 64 years old and very likely on his last NHL coaching deal

or

2. Side with your two new star players who both seem to have issues with the coach and are both signed for another 6 seasons after this

Again, I fully agree that the rot in this organization goes deeper than the coach. It has for my entire lifetime. But if I were the GM and I had a mandate to be competitive for the next 6 years, I'm not choosing to ride it out with Darryl. I'm bringing in someone else who can try and get more out of Kadri and Huberdeau.
