Tkachuk wanted a 5 year deal after his ELC. He forced his way out as soon as he could despite saying he wanted to sign long term either in 2019 or 2022. A large chunk of posters who say we lack elite talent today said the exact same thing 2 years ago when Tkachuk and Gaudreau struggled in the Canadian division.
Age 24 is the perfect age to go 8 years so had Tkachuk been willing to stay we would have signed him at the perfect time.
