The 'existential threat' line is practically a meme right now in the US and Australia. I've never seen this level of alarmist language before wrt China. It reminds me of pre-Iraq war days. In a hearing yesterday down south one representative said the US is already at war with China now, in the last intelligence hearing another representative talked about the best defence being a good offense regarding conflict with China, meanwhile in Australia there have been super alarmist statements about Australia's need to prepare for war with China in three years, to accelerate a nuclear program, and even stuff about a draft.
Canada obviously is warranted in wanting to prevent elections influence and other things that violate Canadian laws, but I hope Canada doesn't get caught up in the kind of rhetoric going on in the US and Australia. There seems to be a full court press from some conservative circles to motivate the public for war in both of these other countries, which I sincerely hope Canada does not end up in.
