I was gonna correct you but yeah I guess it is getting on for 30 years. Jesus. Though I didn't get a player until 1999/2000 and I remember being an early adopter among people I knew. It was a gamechanger compared to VHS, the main advantage being far easier to fast forward/rewind using the actual buttons or the chapter skip function. Other cool things were menus (and hidden easter eggs), making of docs, commentaries etc. Although as a teenager one of my favourite functions was the ability to pause and zoom in on Nicole Kidman in Eyes Wide Shut
