But you JUST know if the situation is the same they'll retain a few of them just in case playoffs happen, and those UFAs will walk a couple months later for zilch
Players have more value when there's an extra year of term. Should have taken advantage of the madness earlier this week. Although not mathematically, it's been intellectually over for about 9-12 days now
A 1-2 round exit this or next year will not be worth what they'll surrender in talent that they could have plucked from this draft. So near-sighted

Players with more term sometimes have more value. But at the TDL they often are harder to move - less deals for retention, less cap room, and less flexibility for acquiring teams. The contenders usually want hired guns for the POs or short term depth.
The only significant players with term who I can recall were moved were Chychrun (a hockey deal for a guy who wanted out) and Hronek (just a weird deal).
EDIT - forgot Ekholm but I doubt Calgary was making a trade with the OIlers for a pick.
