I think we can expect goaltending to return to the mean a bit, and I suppose if the goal is 'make the playoffs and anything can happen', something can happen - but the organization is so far back in terms of skill, I don't think that's something you can fix in one or even two off-seasons.

The theory would be that they will be better because they haven't had go much their way this season and bad goaltending has undermined everything.
The underlying metrics suggest this is a playoff team, though I don't think they are a contending team.
I highly doubt though the team will be brought back in tact.
But I think they are still trying to compete now, which is why we haven't seen deadline deals. They are not interested in futures, which is what Sec214 has pointed out. They are looking for hockey trades and other teams don't want to delete from their roster.
Not the path I would choose, but I think the one they are on.
My fear is that BT is tired of it and will walk. Even if you don't think he's the best GM, I have little confidence that this franchise can recruit a better one.
I think they will promote someone internally or bring someone in in the mold of Jay Feaster, who assures ownership that he can "turn this around" and there is "no need to rebuild"
