As bad as the goaltending has been, and it has been so, so, so bad, this team is quite possibly the least "clutch" team I've ever seen. For contrast I'd say the 2015 Flames were probably one of the most "clutch" teams I've ever seen. You had to watch every game that season because you just KNEW even though they were down 4-0, they were gonna claw back and make a game of it.
This team is the opposite of that. This team is a good team that has no swagger.
The only forwards who are consistently showing anything offensively are probably Lindholm, Backlund and Toffoli with an honorable mention to Dube who seems to be coming into his own. Backlund especially has been a real big player for the team this season. He just always seems to be around it and when they need a goal he's got the play on his stick. It's a real shame this team has wasted that.
Outside of that signs of life have been inconsistent at best and non-existent at worst. Kadri has been amazing at times and terrible at others. Huberdeau is a guy we've seen fleeting glimpses of. Mangiapane's been ok of late but his production hasn't been there.
Too many posts and out for too many players.
The Defense I have a little more faith in but I do think there needs to be some changes there as well.
If this team isn't "it" then it's time to look at who we might extend beyond the end of next season and start shipping out the players who don't fit the bill. This team HAS to stop paying a premium for other teams players while getting very little in return for their UFA's.
