Look at some of the shorter term deals and the value we are getting out of them. Tanev and Toffoli come to mind 4 year deals expiring at the right and and we got great value out of them.
That's why I am a big advocate of short term deals especially for 28-30 year old players in the 4 year range. I think it should be a big topic of discussion in the next CBA.

You're right, you don't want to get stuck with too many long term contracts of players playing into their mid/late 30s. I think he is the guy you keep in spite of that. If he is willing to stick with the team through a rebuild or retool then you try to keep him. He would be a valuable teammate for the young players breaking into the NHL just as much as he would be for a team trying to take the next step.
I feel Huberdeau can easily be moved if he has a bounce back season, same with Kadri. Yes, they have NMC in their contracts but that doesn't mean they can't be moved, they just have control as to where they go.
