The next year they have the top line in hockey and get 111pts and win the division and a round. This year the team is literally where they are because our goalie who just had a kid has been off all season and the new superstar we acquired is having a tough time adjusting to a completely new market/conference/country to play in. If we had average goaltending this team is in 1st place in the pacific.
No where near as bad as you portray

Then the top talent that drove last years season left the team, and an aging goalie had a career season that looks to be an outlier (just as this season also looks to be an outlier).
Where’s our Gaudreau and Tkachuk?
Yeah, if we had a #1 centre when we had Jarome then we would have been #1 in the NW Division a lot too…the whole idea of “chasing that one piece” that we don’t have is a fools errand. You can’t just manifest that one missing piece - I mean that’s what Markstrom was actually supposed to be. Marky was supposed to be the stabilizing goalie that we’d not had since Kipper left and it hasn’t worked out through 3 seasons (1 average year, 1 great year, 1 atrocious year). Even if we had league average goaltending, what do you think happens come playoff time against Colorado? Or any of these power house teams in the East.
I do sound like I did after the Canadian bubble - because the situation hasn’t improved, it has worsened.
