The team's process has been pretty much identical to last year when it comes to generation and suppression of shots and the location those shots come from.
But the results from those outcomes this year have sucked.
Some of that might be a lack of talent, a lot of it has been the goalies just not playing up to expectation, but it's tough to say all these players suck.
Unfortunately the Flames seem to run into these types of seasons more than other teams.
Happened in 17/18, happened a bit in 20-21, happened this year in 22/23.
And then also had the seasons where everything went right (in the regular season) in 14/15, 18/19, and 21/22.
Just is what it is in hockey sometimes. Luck plays a factor into both shooting and save percentage and it can be inconsistent.

I made this point a couple years ago. The modern NHL is the major sport in which luck carries the most weight.
I’ve watched a few Bruins games this year and haven’t really understood what their hype is about. It’s impossible to argue with their record, but look at their team save pct too… it’s unreal. And Ulmark is a career journeyman goalie, and it’s not like he isn’t facing grade A chances in some of these games.
To counter my point, you would expect at some point for there to be regression to a mean which we have not yet seen, for either the Flames or the Bruins. Maybe confidence has played a big role in that too though?
It’s hard to envision the Bruins as a top 6 (or maybe even 8) team in the East if they had the Flames goaltending from this year.
