Seeing a lot of “Flames are cursed” posts in here. But really, this isn’t a new or unique problem the Flames are facing, they’ve always had trouble finishing dating back to 2016. I remember this team making 3rd string back ups look like peak Dominic Hasek.
The only difference is we’ve replaced the Michael Frolik’s, Curtis Lazar’s and Joakim Nordstrom’s of the world with players like Blake Coleman and Milan Lucic. Even a guy like Backlund has always had trouble finishing. Lindholm’s sh% is down 4.5% this season and he’s on pace to score just over half of the goals he put up last season. I mean how times did we see him unleash the wicked one timer he has from the slot this season? Barely any and we saw that with regularity last season.
At some point, perhaps the methodology has to be put in to question. Maybe management has put too much focus on the process and not enough on execution. The Flames have been an elite shot generation team for a long time now and yet they’re always in the middle of the pack or below average in the GF department (minus a couple outlier seasons).
