How about some spot news photography . . . .

Walking around the lake in Alix, I've had my dogs on leashes and in hand but as we get out into the fields, I let them run a bit, verbally keeping them away from the lake.

BUT . . . they go around a corner and sure enough, I come across the scene below, one dog through the ice weakened by beavers.

I'm using a Nikon D-80 with an 18 mm wide angle. As I race through the brambles - cutting my nose on a branch along the way - I take five photo's by just holding the camera up and pointing as I'm moving.

The log shows the span between the first one (not presented here) and the last one shown below is 18 seconds . . . . and one minute and four seconds from the previous "normal" picture to the first one showing disaster striking.

Oh, oh, dog through the ice . . . .

A little closer . . . . HALP!!!

And, the rescue, my arm going in and grabbing the hapless and soggy pooch by the collar, dragging her out.

I estimate she was in the water less than a minute.

Never take your eyes off your kids for even a minute!!
