There are others things besides goaltending holding this team back. If you look at the D and Forwards there seems to be a lot of guys that are good 5 on 5 and on the PK but this team is lacking players who are high end PP players. This team is bad on the PP
Tkachuk and Gaudreau were high end PP players.
When you build your team on with depth rather than superstars, this is the concern. Other than Huberdeau who is having a bad season, none of the Flames players are guys that you would label as high-end PP players. None of the defense is either.
You can't PP your way to the cup like the Oilers are trying, but advanced stats have led to people disregarding it too much as well as an important piece to winning a cup. Top end teams have lethal powerplays most years.
