That being said they have at least 1 NHL ready prospect in Zary. They also have 9 forwards in their top 9 that deserves to be top 9 forwards in this league. If there is a problem, it's a lack of star players in the top 9.
They also need cap space next year. Zary in someone out of the top 9 traded just makes sense. If Jeannot is getting what he got, McCabe and Lafferty landed a bunch too. Seems like trading a player for picks now is a good option. Toffoli is my choice as he is having a career year and has a very tradeable contract.

I agree in terms of talent and cap space. Also, this season seems out of sync so get some assets back and retool in the summer.
I would be okay with a full rebuild but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking that is the team's direction.I also can't say that a team that has players who want to be there and signed long term should just instantly give up on the roster after one bad season. Seems like a bad way to build an organization.
I would be surprised if the Flames aren't quietly listening to offers on players. They may not do anything because they are looking forward to next season or they'd like to keep said players hoping for a rebound year. It seems silly to not improve your organizational depth in a supposed really good draft year when the team isn't performing.
If the returns are good, I'd be listening on anyone not over 25 years old.
