One concern I have with waiting until next year is that I think the Flames actually have a pretty good roster and will make the playoffs next year with average goaltending. So I don't think there will be any accumulation of assets because they won't want to get rid of guys who are primed for a playoff run.
If they move one forward and one D, such as Toffoli and Tanev, they can sign Coronato, call up Phillips, Meloche and/or DeSimone and ride out the season, while still looking pretty strong for next year.
Huberdeau - Kadri - Pelletier
Coleman - Backlund - Mangiapane
Dube - Lindholm - Coronato/Phillips
Ruzicka - Zohorna - Duehr
Hanifin - Andersson
Kylington - Weegar
Zadorov - Gilbert
Markstrom
Vladar/Wolf
Honestly, I think that is a pretty good starting point for next season. With the assets that they would pick up from some trades they might be able to swing a deal for a star or just restock the cupboards and hope that some of the players having an off year will get back to normal.
