I thought it was fun -- like I mentioned before the series started, this writing group is largely full of hacks so keeping to a simple mustache-twirling villain trying to kill everyone for some reason is probably for the best. She does seem to be a little too much of a weirdo though.
Modern Trek gets roped into this weird trope of having whichever main character Starfleet ship always be completely outclassed. This was interesting in the Star Trek 2009 reboot showing how just a mining ship from 100 years in the future was so far advanced beyond warships of the time, kind of a neat idea that made sense. But how does this weirdo bounty hunter type person have basically an invincible ship loaded with a gazillion weapons? Reminds me of Star Trek Nemesis in that way.
Federation technology should be almost untouchable, or at least only equaled by the other dominant galactic powers.
