He's not really right though IMO.
The only case where they didn't go long term where they should have was Tkachuk and maybe Mangiapane. But different points of the building cycle as Buffalo and were capped out when those ones came up.
Gaudreau and Monahan were both signed long term the first opportunity they had to re-sign them. (6 and 7 years respectively)
Hanifin and Lindholm were signed to 6 year deals before ever playing a game with the Flames.
Andersson was signed to a 6 year deal.
You could criticize them for not going 8 years in every scenario but also not realistic either.
