I enjoyed it, but yeah, this show has set the bar really, really high.
But it allows us to know a lot more about Ellie. I definitely saw it going to a much darker place, such as Ellie having to kill her best friend and newfound lover.
Or perhaps some sort of Romeo and Juliet scenario where Riley kills herself and when its Ellie's moment she realizes that she's not turning and then she maybe wonders if that particular zombie (I know they dont like that word, its not a clicker, what is the proper nomenclature here?) wasnt able to infect others until she learns more on her journey?
There are lots of little ways they could have really crushed Ellie's soul under their bootheels, but rather they just showed that she is essentially a standard mistrusting and bitter orphan.
But still, I found it overall still quite good in terms of character development. Especially since we, the non-game-playing audience, dont really know anything about Ellie and how she came to be who she is, but give us more of a glimpse into how this world works and some of the internal political conflicts.
One thing I would say is that they havent vilified FEDRA enough for me as an audience.
They talk about how FEDRA is evil, they talk about how they're fascist, but they havent shown that demonstrably. Thus far FEDRA seem like run-of-the-mill Prison Guard type bullies but thats about the extent of it.
So yeah, not their strongest offering, but as I stated, thats a super high bar at this point, but certainly not 'weak' in any respective sense.
