Is suspicion of foreign influence that is insufficient to bring criminal charges and automatic kick out? The answer is probably yes but it’s interesting that no one was ever charged in this.
The more worrying part is that the liberals appear to have been made aware that their nomination process allowing for non-citizens to participate was being targeted and did nothing between 2019 and 2021.

Like you said, there are two major issues here.
The illegal part of all of this, and how the RCMP should deal with it. Did they even know? Were they briefed by the PMO or CSIS about these issues? Not sure.
Secondly, the fact that the Liberals knew about this, and literally did nothing. They didn't run it up or down the chain, didn't block a nomination, didn't go public, nothing. And now when it goes public, they are STILL stonewalling it as much as they can.
Which begs the question, what else are they trying to hide?
The PM has had ZERO reason to not deal with this from the start. You want be a MP in in the Liberal Party and be in bed with the Chinese? See yah. But instead they buried it and then lied that they were told about it.
Honestly, the Martin Liberals fell for a lot less.
