Unfortunately after listening to Rob Kerr last night I think any idea/hope of a re-build is toast (much like most have already said)
He basically said that ownership only cares about the playoff revenue, not the product on the ice sadly. So getting into the playoffs is "the only option" they dont have plan B.
Even with the terrible play all year and awful goaltending, they've spent to the cap and want to recoup as much of their money as they can, and that requires playoff revenue. Sadly as much as we want to see this team commit to a proper rebuild and sell off some of our assets at the deadline its just not going to happen.
This further explains the 2 decades of mediocrity, the holding onto Iginla because "were only 1 center away" from winning a cup etc etc.
Sadly this franchise doesn't care about winning, its limping into playoff revenue and seeing what happens from there.
Honestly a bit sad listening to it, because as much as I knew it was probably true... finally hearing someone close to the team confirm it just hurt.
Just wish we would do it properly one time and see what happens.
