That stood out to me a little bit.

I'm not reading to much into this. If Kerr heard those words verbatim or if he knows ownerships mentality. Ownership has conducted business for decades with playoff revenue on a year to year basis as priority. Its the main reason this team has been mediocre for decades, they either don't understand or are unwilling to make decisions that may mean sacrificing some years of pain to potentially build something that is more than just a flash in the pan.
As business moguls they surely understand the importance of long term growth and success, but obviously doing this in the finance, oil/gas, etc., world is vastly different than building a hockey team. Which is why I believe the Calgary Flames are more of a fancy toy to them, a toy that they manage whatever way that makes them happy. Unfortunate for us die hards who hope to one day see a consistent championship contender on the ice, filled with superstar level talent, that is entertaining as hell to watch, seems less likely.
And for those who want to bring up the likes of Edmonton/Buffalo and not Chicago/Pittsburgh, etc, I'm not guaranteeing that rebuilding properly is going to ensure being on the better side of the 4 teams I mentioned above, but personally I'd be much supportive of a team that learned from past mistakes and changed course after failure, vs a mediocre hope and prayer product year after year.
