In hockey terms, yes 3 more picks in the draft would be huge. The odds of getting an NHLer are what 1 in 20 per pick?

Your giving up guys that won’t be here soon to acquire these picks. In some cases you’ll get multiple picks and even prospects a bit further along in their development.

That’s not a lottery dude. Especially when scouting is a Flames strength.
I think the conversation was about the Flames using their available cap space to help broker deals, similar to what the Wild did today.

Sure, no argument here. In fact put Kylington on LTIR and use that cap space to gain more picks, if you can. But we’re likely talking about 3rd rounds picks or later. Fine to pick those up where you can and it makes sense.

As far as sending players out for picks, or multiple as you’ve put it, who did you have in mind? Lucic? Ritchie? Stone? The Flames aren’t in position to sell this year. Nor do I see them willing to retain on any of the guys whose deal expires next year. I’ll go out on a limb and say the Flames will stay the course and try to compete next year, as unpopular a direction that will be. I don’t see them selling off players to stockpile picks here in the short term.
