I think that's a fair criticism, Eldrick. You spend a lot of time "getting to know" Ellie and Joel in the video game just by virtue of the trudge through the post-apocalyptic world. There are lots of little scripted gameplay moments and bits of dialogue between the two that the show has borrowed from, but also some they've completely ignored. In particular Episode 3 of the TV series, with Bill and Frank, is completely different in the game, with Joel and Ellie spending much, much more time in Bill's town.
