The IKEA mattresses are slightly above passable. I agree. For the price, they compete well with other stuff in that price range and are decent value. Tossing a topper on those mattresses helps a bit to bring up the performance for a fraction of a price of a full on mattress (and it's less heavy to lift).

But once you exceed a certain threshold of mattress, it's not what you want in a mattress.

However, one of the things I've also started realizing is that a bad bed frame can really give you a bad time. I have a few that were great and after a move and about 6 months, I've had nothing but discomfort and grief. I think I will junk the frames and start over because trying to address the "cosmetic bend" and the DIY repairs are not working. I thought it was the mattress at first, until I tried the mattress on the floor and it was back to being how it felt before and no pain. The bunkie boards and bed box situations affect comfort/discomfort as well.
