So I wouldn't say a star, but he was a top 10 starter or so. And a .920 SV% over that time would rank first, so not like he was miles behind other top goalies.
This year he's probably one of the worst 4 starters in the league though. Among goalies that have played 30 games or more only Jack Campbell has a worse save percentage than Markstrom's .889

Why do we think a goalie already in his early thirties was going to maintain that for that contract length? Even optimists would likely think the back half of that deal was not going to be pretty.
