I wouldn't say the bolded has been the case. Defensive breakdowns happen to every team in every game. That's why there are high danger chances. That's when you need your goalie to step up and ideally stop most of them.

With how historically bad Markstrom is this season, it's making the defense look worse than it actually is because the miscues more times than not end up in the back of the net.

It's extremely difficult (impossible) as a team to play absolutely perfect defense - giving up no chances whatsoever the whole game - in order to have a chance to win.
