I just lost a very dear person to me, whom I knew my entire life, to the reasons you outlined(nothing to do with sports). And honestly, this thread feels like a gut punch.
That said, you should probably take a break from hockey or sports when entertainment turns into anger, sadness, and depression. You don't have control or influence the outcome, so you shouldn't take responsibility by making your life miserable.
