And what did those two do the first chance they had to get away from Sutter?
If they thought Sutter was a great coach do you think they were running away to Columbus and asking for a trade to Florida. Leaving the team that drafted them and a 1st place team offering more money.
And then in Tkachuk's case saying his new coach was the best coach he ever played for. Sometimes it's forgotten but there were rumors Tkachuk asked for a trade in 20-21 season when Sutter had demoted him at times and his ice time dropped. Looking back now maybe that was true.
To me those guys had great seasons because they were two elite players that wanted to get paid as free agents - not because something Sutter did suddenly unlocked their potential.
I would love to ask Gaudreau and Tkachuk with truth serum two questions: 1) Did you guys play Sutter's system as asked or did you guys kind of do your own thing in 21-22? 2) What was the real reason you both decided to leave Calgary?
