So they make the playoffs as a consequence of being the mix with a lot of really bad teams. So what? They can just as easily lose in overtime in the playoffs.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm saying it's not a lost season if there's still a good chance they're making the playoffs. They won't tank for better draft picks. They're not going to be sellers at the deadline. If they make the playoffs it's not a lost season. Just get in and give yourself a chance.
That does not mean I'm happy with the season up to this point. I agree with your last sentence.
