My interest in the RS6 began and ended with sitting in it on the showroom floor and determining it didn't fit me.
The S-class they have in the MB dealership I stopped at yesterday was fricken $240k! The RS6 was already beyond what I wanted to spend, but it seemed like a dream car on paper. The S-class isn't really dream car stuff to me. It's like a boat...it'd be great if one of my friends owned one, but I don't want one for myself.
I'm a used-car buyer all-day long, but, as you say, this market is all back asswards. I've been holding off on a vehicle purchase for over two years (was going to replace my work truck, but truck prices are bananas and my truck is still mint, so fata it, I'm keeping it). Been a few things around me lately reminding me we don't live forever, so that's why I'm willing to loosen the purse strings some in spite of bad market timing.

For ####s and giggles, I built out both an RS6 and an S580 today... with how I'd want them, the S cam to about $15k more... Now I added everything possible and it's not even close to $240k... Something funny going on there.
I'll resign to the idea that I'm just a weirdo when it comes to the big sedans... I was happy as could be bombing around in my "old man boat" in my 20s when all my friends were getting their careers going and buying sports cars (mine was an Alpina, but still)... Obviously - as the overall market is telling us - no one else agrees with me either.
I'm generally the go-to for my friends when it comes to vehicle advice, but I'll admit this is a real head scratcher... I bet even some of the fun SUVs would be off the table, huh?
