Side fanny packs or sling bags are the best for traveling. Empty pockets at security because you basically unclip your pocket into the bin. Walk through with no metal on your body, clip your pockets back on vs filling them manually and walk out of security in ultra minimal time. I've used a side fanny pack I could hide under my shirt for years, even before they came back in style. They're awesome for traveling.

They're also great for putting your passport and boarding pass into because a passport in a pants pocket (non cargo shorts/pants lower pocket or back pocket) is really awkward.

They are especially useful when corralling children through security at an airport.
