Depends what is defined as life. If it's merely continuing to "tick/vibrate" and exist in a detectable manner in this dimension, then yes/no. After a certain point we cease to control our body in this dimension and we are reabsorbed by other things in this dimension. (ie: A mindless cell absorbed by another). And yet, because somethings don't really get reabsorbed, but do cease, but still have the ability to convey information later on millions of years later (ie: A fossil, frozen #### in space etc.) what is that?
Now if we mean cognitive functions and awareness, then... I don't know. The fact of the matter is, there are certain things that we don't understand. Our minds have become these super complex chemicals and signals and patterns that can create insanely amazing ideas. Do dreams and imagined predictions/possibilities exist in this dimension or do they exist in a different dimension? If dying means your mind goes into a different dimension, but your mind is so zonked out psychedelic style or in a hole and "incapacitated" in that dimension... do you really exist there? Is heaven a permanent LSD trip and hell a permanent K-hole trip? What "form" is a real thought and what "form" is an imaginative thought? If energy cannot be destroyed but changes forms, then what form is thought and if we Sci fi a brain without a body into a computer, is that life or something else? Who knows...
This is also rooted in the reverse concept of where one might wonder where "life" begins with an AI. Can life be pure cognition and awareness (mind/cognition/calculation) or does it require purely a physical form (ie: Plant, bacteria etc.) or other (ie: a legacy/intangible influences left behind after you cease)?
All this and in the end, I believe "life" means that you/your body is doing what is necessary to survive. You can be dying (ie: Cancer) but you are alive until you are not. You can be in a death like state (ie: NDE) but until your body disassociates from cognition to the point of no return, you're alive.
Life after death? Perhaps it's possible in some sort of philosophical scientific way. But definitely not a continuation of your current life and cognition/personality IMO in some sort of spiritual Gaia mind ether (Star Wars) or new body elsewhere (the OA) IMO.
