I think there’s a difference between posters who comment on the game generally, good and bad, and those who pop up just to comment on one player. And so called “defenders” don’t do the latter, only certain critics. It doesn’t just happen with him. Happens with Huberdeau, Kadri, hell it happens with Sutter. Just different posters.

It is fun to enjoy the narrative that Flames fans cheering for and defending (defined in this case as not going full meltdown in expressing hatred) the play of Flames players on a Flames message board are somehow the bad guys though.
