But honestly retaining salary on a good contract would garner even better trade returns, and opens up more of the market for you to get the best return available when so many teams are cap constrained.
I had mentioned it in the offseason when the discussion was still for re-build vs going for it (prior to Huberdeau/Kadri acquisitions).
If you're not going to be a cap team anyways then you should try to retain to get the best possible deal - especially if it's only 1-2 year deals.
