If you want to use the Avs as a comparison, seems like you should be willing to discuss the reasons behind each team's struggles.
You say an injury to the 5th defenseman is bad luck and a significant loss.
I see it as an ordinary part of an NHL season and a test of the organization's depth. Which has been very disappointing.
My guess is that of the 53 games played thus far, the Flames have iced more of their "expected" starters in the majority of those games compared to their competition, so I have a hard time pointing to injuries as an an explanation for their results. That's not saying they have been perfectly healthy.
Today though, the Sabres have Thompson and Cozens back so they seem to be the healthier team. Hopefully there will be no need to look for excuses after this one.
