Also, I am old enough to remember when the jersey came out. Lots of people hated the jersey and that hate lasted for a while. I'd say most fans hated the jersey at the time it came out.

It was a desperate marketing ploy by Ron Bremner all around. Black for the sake of black, and, a wildly radical logo to be used as a primary. Further proof of the shotgun style marketing of that era was the fact the Flames eventually ditched the pedestals after being tackily well out of style, and for 2 seasons had no red jersey.
I bought a Flames original authentic in 1994 when on clearance after the pedestal came out, and didn't buy another Flames jersey until the 2003 preorder.
