At the end of the day I really can’t see the Flames doing much at the trade deadline. They have too much cap committed next year already and going forward.

Treliving gambled and went big for the next few years. So far it looks like he lost, but who knows? Maybe the team comes together better next year (especially once Sutter is no longer able to roll Lucic in the top 6).

Like it or not though, the Flames core is what it is. There are too many bad contracts on the books to make any meaningful moves. The Flames are going to have to get better at drafting and developing because it’s about the only way they’re going to be able to add to their existing core in the near future.
