I agree with the couple of years but safe to say they'll need to get a gem with the pick
Beauvilier is a guy that, in the right situation, could easily be a 45 point guy, which is solid 2nd line production. The Canucks can put him in a position to do that by playing him on PP1 and in their top 6. If they do that, and he scores at a solid pace for the rest of the season, they can withhold 50% on him and he becomes valuable on a 1 year deal for $2M. Possibly worth a late 2nd. That is a gamble, and the downside risk is that he fails to return to his career averages, and Vancouver wastes 4M in cap space next year when they're going to be bad anyway.

Aatu Raty is a player who dropped due to a terrible draft season before having a tremendous draft +1 year where he immediately rebuilt his value as a prospect - to the point that the Athletic had him go 22nd overall when they did a re-draft earlier this season. The value there is, realistically, a late first round pick. This is not a B prospect.

You can debate whether that's enough value for trading your captain when he's 27 and having the best season of his career, and of course you're right that who wins depends on whether the first rounder produces a good player, but let's be accurate about what the return was.
