I watched the report on CNN yesterday and the guy they were interviewing said that these spy balloons are actually a fairly regular occurrence. I think this one was just a little more alarming because it flew over a pretty sensitive site and the implication that they are collecting the information to sell to Russia. I bet these are likely also some of the UAP reported over the course of a year.
I do wonder why they don't just shoot it down though while it was over a low-density area. I guess you could set it up to collect erroneous information if you are aware of it.
