I know this is all hindsght on my end, but trading Huberdeau to help offset the loss of Gaudreau while still keeping Weegar, Schwindt and the 1st plus signing Kadri would have sufficed as far as looking at balancing everything out.
Reality:
Code:
Gaudreau = 0
Tkachuk = [Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt, 1st]
Monahan + 1st = Kadri
We could have re-wrote that narrative by simply flipping Huberdeau and framing the offseason like this:
Code:
Tkachuk = [(Huberdeau), Weegar, Schwindt, 1st]
Gaudreau (by way of flipping Huberdeau) = Assets and/or cap space for signing Kadri
{Something less than Monahan + 1st} = Kadri
Again, all hindsight, but I think a lot of people would have been happy with that result, especially when framed this way in the media.
