The thing with the Islanders is that they have Ilya Sorokin. He's good enough to potentially go on an insane run en route to the finals.
When you have an elite goalie, sometimes all you need is to barely make the playoffs.
You can argue that this is what led to the Flames delusional/mediocre endeavors from 2008 to 2014.
But present-day Sorokin (92.3% in a league with an average around 90.6%) is a lot better than post 2007 Kiprusoff (91.0% in a league with an average of around 91.3%).
