I’m aware of each of their skillsets, but you are underselling Tanev a bit. He makes as good a first pass as anyone, is good with the puck, and put up almost 30 points last year. Nobody can tell me that Tanev wasn’t the perfect partner for OK last year, and that he would have looked as good with anyone else. Ask Quinn Hughes what Tanev did for hin.
If Kylington were to return, I highly doubt it would be Weegar playing with Z on the third pair, it will probably be Kylington-especially considering how effective the Tanev/ Weegar pairing has been. They quietly have some of the best metrics in the league.
