I actually just got around to watching the latest episode this evening (
), and I still think with all due respect to Earl Brown, his age might still have been problematic. He's pushing 60 and looks it, and I don't think he could have convincingly played the scenes set 2003-2013ish, while Offerman believably plays mid to late-40s and was believably aged up for the last few scenes.
That said, as it turns out I'm not sure Earl Brown would have been right for the part anyway. It was really an entirely different character, quite easily the biggest deviation from the game so far.
I wouldn't go as far as to say "greatest TV episode of all time" as some have, but it was quite good. Like I said, very different from the game...
