The biggest mistake of that one was going for contaminated land and trying to build on the opposite end of downtown that the City of Calgary was focusing on. You can't do that in a mid size city like Calgary.
They should have gone for Calgary Next, north of the Stampede grounds and focused hard on renderings that would get people on board. That proposal was so half baked that fans could barely cobble together what the arena or stamps field house would look like inside. That's embarrassing.
It was basically, "this is amazing, it will revolutionize Calgary, but we didn't take the time to really show you much, now give us hundreds of millions now!".
