A lot of people think that you are a terrible person and are contributing to poverty if you don't tip. Also, there is an implication that you might get substandard service or your food tampered with if you don't tip.

Tipping is in a weird place, where most people think that a tipping culture/economy is wrong, but also think you are a bad person if you don't tip.
