Again, not saying Mike's perception about the level of restrictions is correct, but Alberta (as lax as we were) definitely took things more seriously than a lot of the individual States.
It's not perception, the considerations mentioned is/was reality. Mike maintains a place in Arizona as well as Calgary so he probably has a better view of what restrictions are comparatively than most Calgarians. If you're an American who is about to have your first child who's extended family all lives in the United States and one of your most important considerations is wanting to have family be able to visit as they please, given the past three years why would you locate across the border from the US if you have a choice?

Also, Alberta's restrictions were only lax by Ontario / Quebec / Maritime standards and mostly inline with other western provinces like BC and Saskatchewan. By US standards they were incredibly long standing. Recall that in the 2021 playoffs it was only Canadian teams that were playing in front of crowdless arenas and that bled into more than halfway through the 2021/2022 season. Given all this, it's reasonable to assume that Canada would be the first to close and restrict and the last to open up in any future scenario. If you are American and given the choice, which side of the border would you want to be?
