At the same time, we finally have a coach who isn't a Gully or a Ward and people want to run him out of town after half a mediocre season. I even read a certain poster try to write off his teams good seasons (including two cups) as flukes.
They lost two offensive superstars in the offseason and the Vezina caliber goalie is playing with the yips. We don't have a Mackinnon or a McDavid or a Stamkos. We have a Huberdeau who was just traded and a Lindholm. If this team is going to win it will have to be tight games where they don't give up much. I don't think opening things up will give this team much success when the goalie is playing poor and we don't have the offensive horsepower of other teams.

Sutter is a very good head coach but IMO this has been his worst season as Flames head coach. From the beginning of the season with his strange handling of Huberdeau (calling him the Flames greatest passer in preseason to calling him out in the media and the whole bathroom break thing), puzzling line combinations, overuse of Lucic, Markstrom, etc. With less than 3 minutes left in the game last night and the goaltender pulled he had Lewis and Lucic on the ice. Does he really think those are the best guys to have on the ice down two goals late in the 3rd period? Sometimes I get the feeling he would rather lose his way than win if it meant doing things things differently. Also team defense is poor and that reflects on the coaching staff as the talent level of the blueline has not been reflected in their play. As with several players on the roster, just hasn't been his best year for him.
