I used to be so emotionally invested in the team and my mood could change if they won or lost that night. I remember being so down in the dumps when they had that huge slide in 09/10 which was followed by the Phaneuf and Jokinen trades. I always thought Iggy was going to get it done here in Calgary and I didn’t want to believe he and Kipper were not going to win the cup. I was in my early-mid 20’s during 04-10 years and in University and just starting work. I was living a far less stressful life so I was just more emotionally invested
For the past several I have removed the negative emotions from watching the game. The highs are not what they used to be when they won but the lows are really minimized. My job and family are far more important and impact my mood more than how my favorite sports team does.
I was really bummed for a night when they lost to the Oilers last year but had it been 10-15 years ago I would have been angry for likely weeks/months. I see what fans post on Twitter and this forum and I just don’t get it anymore. Maybe they were just like me when I was younger but I can’t see a 35+ person who has kids or a stressful job caring that much or getting so angry about the team winning or losing.
